Services

My basic services are:
  • an introductory meeting to see if we "fit": This is free and does not obligate you to my services
  •  3 prenatal visits, tailored to your specific needs: Each of these visits lasts approximately 2-3 hours. The structure of the meetings roughly follows this schedule:
       I. Discussion of the Birth Plan worksheet in depth so that you are aware of
all your options from pre-labor through early newborn care; birth video
II. Focus on early and active labor; hands-on work with comfort techniques                     during a two hour labor simulation exercise.
III. Transition, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, babywearing
  •  formulation of a comprehensive one page birth plan : I am happy to do this using your choices from the Birth Plan Worksheet. I can make it either using bullets or sentences. If you have a birth plan you'd prefer to use then by all means we shall do that!
  • going on-call for you at 38 weeks
  • informational, emotional, and physical support during labor and delivery
  • assistance with first breastfeeding if necessary, and continued breastfeeding support over the first couple of weeks
  • continued postpartum support/assistance until you are settled and ready for your privacy
  • 1 postpartum follow-up visit
  • 24 hour phone support from signing of the contract until 4 weeks postpartum
  • full access to my lending library
  • placenta encapsulation: see below! This is offered for an additional fee.

For those who are not contracting me for their birth I offer:
  •  Birth plan services: A meeting (3 hours) where we discuss in depth all of your options from pre-labor to postpartum (you have more than you might realize!) and I can draw you up a birth plan based on your choices.
  • Comfort measures/labor simulation class: If you cannot afford the full doula package, but would like preparation in comfort techniques for labor, I will come to you for a special class (3 hours) focused on keeping you comfortable and active during your labor. During this class we will do a two-hour labor simulation during which we will practice the comfort techniques.
  • Placenta encapsulation: Placenta WHAT?? This is the process of steaming, dehydrating, and grinding the placenta, and then placing the powder into capsules for the mother to consume throughout the postpartum weeks, or to save until menopause. It is said that this gradually replaces the hormones which are lost so quickly after childbirth and eases the drastic mood swings that occur in the early postpartum days. In menopause, these capsules are said to ease the more uncomfortable symptoms women experience. For more information, visit the Placenta Benefits website.
