Birth Plans
One of my services to you is the formulation of a comprehensive one page birth plan. Chances are you already know what you want as far as the management of your labor/delivery/postpartum are concerned. It is important, though,to have a tangible record of your wishes so that all the members of your birth team are on the same page as regards your wishes. We all hope to be in such a presence of mind that we could effectively communicate with those around us while in labor. Unfortunately, sometimes labor ends up requiring more of our energy and attention than we had anticipated. At those times, your primary or secondary birth partner will be able to speak up for you by recalling your birth plan. If you are lucky, the doctor and nurses will be well acquainted and on board with it. I have seen it happen at two births so far and it was simply awesome!
What I do is have you check off your preferred options on a birth plan worksheet. I then take home the birth plan worksheet and combine all your choices into a tentative birth plan. The front side will be the plans for a normal labor and delivery, and the back side will have your directions for handling emergency situations. I will have it to you within a week, and you will tell me of any changes you want made. I'll have it revised quickly and back to you for approval.
I will include a link below if you would like to explore different styles of birth plans. At our prenatals I'll have samples of birth plans I've done so you know what to expect. If you have a birth plan of your own, that's super! I would still like you to fill out the birth plan worksheet so I know your preferences on things that may not be included in your birth plan.
For those who choose not to contract me for their births, I will still offer this service by itself for a fee of $25.
